Meater Plus With Bluetooth Repeater

4.9
MEATER Plus Wireless Smart Thermometer

Amazon

A meat thermometer is a necessary tool for any griller or smoker, and this small but mighty wireless version will please both tech nerds and minimalists. A small stainless steel probe syncs with Meater’s free app that not only alerts you when a set internal meat temperature is reached, but also estimates cook time, tracks the ambient temperature of the grill or smoker, and keeps a detailed log of every cook for aspiring competitive pitmasters. A small wooden case works as the charger as well as a Bluetooth signal repeater to help extend the wireless range to up to 165 feet.

Our tester said the app was very easy to use and loved that it tracked the cook and that the results could be saved for future use. Better yet, our reviewer found it to be accurate in all of her temperature tests and said because it makes grilling "nearly foolproof," the price tag is totally justified.

Weber Deluxe Stainless Steel Grill Basket

Weber 6434 Deluxe Ss Vegetable Basket

Amazon

Most grills have wide gaps between the grates, allowing flames and heat plenty of room to rise and cook the food. However, that makes it tricky to grill smaller items, like green beans, shrimp, fingerling potatoes, or anything chopped into pieces. Weber has the solution with this basket, which can hold smaller items secure while cooking them evenly, with small slots to allow fat and liquid to drain. It's made of stainless steel with handles for easy transport, and works with gas or charcoal grills. (There is also a smaller model available if this one won't fit on your grill.)

Jaccard Pigtail Food Flipper

Jaccard Pig Tail food flipper

Knife Country USA

Why fumble between fork, tongs, and spatula to turn your grilling meats when you can use one tool? Jaccard’s pigtail flipper uses a sharp hook that pierces food to secure a solid grip. The small hole this flipper makes damages the meat less than a fork, and it does a better job at pulling a stuck steak or chop off the grate without tearing it than tongs or a spatula can. Once cooking is done, the pigtail can also be used as a carrying device, as you proudly parade your grilled delight to the table. A leather loop is attached to the end of the hardwood handle for easy hanging storage. This particular set comes with two differently sized flippers, though the longer 19-inch one is available on its own. Want to bring the gift to the next level? Jaccard also has a set that comes in a nice wooden storage box

Price at time of publish: $27

Material:
Stainless steel, hardwood, leather | Includes: 13.8-inch and 19.3-inch flippers

What Our Editors Say

“My family has been using a set of Jaccard’s pigtail flippers for over 20 years of backyard grilling. It’s great for flipping heavy meats, delicate veggies, and even picking up hot grill pan lids. Thanks to the long handle, your hands stay away from the intense heat, too.”Allison Wignall, Staff Writer

Bear Paws Meat Shredder Claws

4.7
The Original Bear Paws Shredder Claws

Amazon

Shredded chicken tacos and pulled pork sandwiches are delicious, but the act of shredding the meat can be time-consuming and frustrating, especially when it comes to larger cuts. Instead of using the double-fork method, these shredder claws make short work of any meat they go up against, whether it's a single chicken breast or an entire slow-smoked brisket. They also work great for holding large foods in place while carving—a whole turkey, or a 20-pound watermelon, for example. Made of sturdy nylon, the claws are heat-resistant; they’re perfect for shredding food right after it comes off the grill.

Traditional basting brushes use stiff boar bristles, which are great at picking up and applying sauce but are flammable, aren't the easiest to clean, and can detach from the brush and end up on your food. The long, flared handle is also comfortable to hold and keeps your hands away from the heat. Plus, there are 10 different bristle colors available to match any griller's color scheme.

Himalayan salt is well-known for its striking pink hue, in granulated form for seasoning and in larger blocks like this one that can be used to cook or serve food. This hand-carved block is designed to withstand and retain heat and its striking appearance. Salt is an incredibly versatile mineral. In fact, you can even grill on big blocks of salt to infuse flavor into foods. Carved by hand, this one is as much of an accent piece as it is a cooking tool. You can even use it as a serving platter. Able to withstand and retain heat well, it can sit right on top of the grill and gently cook delicate foods like fish or veggies. (Just be sure to heat and cool it slowly to avoid cracking.) You can also chill the block and serve sushi or cold apps on it. What Our Testers Say

"Besides cooking enough pizzas to feed the neighborhood, I also decided to throw a pan of broccoli and peppers into the grill. It’s good to know that the oven can be used for more than just pizza." Donna Currie, Product Tester

BBQ Dragon Chimney of Insanity Charcoal Starter

BBQ Dragon Chimney of Insanity Charcoal Starter

Amazon

Grilling over charcoal offers lots of advantages, but ease of preparing the grill is not one of them. The Chimney of Insanity makes the process of getting the charcoal evenly burning and red-hot easier with a clever design. The fire starter goes in a separate chamber from the charcoal, with a sideways opening and elbow shape that draws in air more quickly to most efficiently get charcoal lit. It's also compatible with BBQ Dragon's starter fan for even-more-efficient lighting. And beyond this chimney's usefulness, the "CHIMNEY OF INSANITY" name on the label will bring a smile to the face of any grill fan.

Männkitchen Pepper Cannon

MANNKITCHEN Pepper Cannon High Output Pepper Mill

That's not a typo; this is a $200 pepper mill. But pepper is a spice that goes into basically every dish, and this mill is something you'll be using daily—especially if you like to grill. The Pepper Cannon claims to put out 10 times as much pepper as other grinders. It's also adjustable to a far wider range of textures than most mills, from an almost powdery grind that can disappear into soups and stews, to a coarse crushed texture perfect for seasoning a thick grilled steak. The Spruce Eats food editor Kristin Stangl (who was sent a sample unit to review) says it's worth the splurge: "When you see the ease with which you can grind large quantities of pepper, and at various settings, all in a sleek and heavy tool, you will understand what all the hype is about."

What to Look for in a Grilling Gift

Quality & Durability

If you're giving a grill tool, gadget, or really anything not meant to be eaten, you want something that stands the test of time and use. Something that splits apart after just a few grilling sessions won’t make for a great present. Look for items that are scratch-resistant, dishwasher-safe, or weatherproof.

Grill Compatibility

There are lots of different types of grills, and not every accessory will work with every grill. The main thing to consider is whether your recipient has a gas or charcoal grill. The higher temperatures and smoke generated by a charcoal grill might be too much for a tool designed for gas, while charcoal grills have a range of devices for starting and controlling the fire that gas ones don't need. Size comes into consideration, too: Large grill pans or things like pizza oven inserts won't fit on a small or round kettle-style grill.

Shipping

When ordering anything perishable—like frozen steaks or sausages, for example—overnight or expedited shipping is often required, which can add a significant amount to cost. Grill tools and accessories made to stand up to high heat are generally pretty heavy-duty, and just plain heavy, which makes for expensive shipping as well. Take into consideration when comparing prices that some retailers include shipping costs while others don't add them on until the end of checkout.

Personalization

Don't overlook the opportunity to personalize your gift! Many of the items above are meant to be used for years and years, and a few extra bucks to add a name or monogram might be well worth it.
